Scott County Airport Authority

Pilots are encouraged to fly into Wings Over the Big South Fork and the airport will be open to regular operations for most of the day.  The field is uncontrolled, but will have an experienced Air Boss (Retired Air Traffic Controller) on frequency to help coordinate the flow of traffic into and out of the airport.  Pilots are highly encouraged to follow the suggestions of the Air Boss when doing so won't compromise their own judgment about safety of flight.

Airport closure times will be by NOTAM with Flight Service.

Tentative Closure Times:

  • Friday       17:00   to 19:00    (2100Z  -  2300Z)
  • Saturday 11:00 to 12:30  (1500Z - 1630Z)
  • Saturday 15:00 to 16:30  (1900Z - 2030Z)
  • Saturday 17:30 to 19:00  (2130Z - 2300Z)

Please check NOTAMS for updates before launching.

There may be other times, such as parachute landings or "Fly By" activity which could result in your being asked as a courtesy to hold outside the area for a few minutes.  Please plan accordingly and we'll try to keep any requested hold times to a minimum.  For the most part you should be able to come and go as you please throughout the day.
The following procedures apply.

  1. Call "Scott County Air Boss" on Frequency 122.80 with Position, Altitude and Type Aircraft and Intentions at least 5 miles from the airport.
  2. Please remain outside the traffic pattern until recognized.
  3. If you'd like a Fly By before landing, please inform the Air Boss on your initial call.
  4. Unless otherwise requested, a standard Left Hand traffic pattern is in effect.  Pattern Altitude for piston airplanes is 2,500 MSL and for turbines 3,000 MSL.  Field elevation is 1,540.
  5. Please try to sequence as suggested by the Air Boss.
  6. Upon Landing, please clear the runway ASAP and follow the directions of the ground marshals.
  7. If you have an aircraft that is capable of parking on a smooth hard grassy area, please celebrate this special ability if requested to do so by our ground marshals.  Our grass parking is closer to the runway, will get you out much faster and save precious pavement for some of your larger "less ground capable" brethren.

Above all, please come early and stay late.  We have lots of food and fun and we want you to be a part of it.

If you know you have to leave at a certain time, please let the Air Boss know what time you have to leave before you land.  We'll try our best to park you accordingly.
